Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool

Commerce is a fact of life. And, the Internet is the new frontier for making money. Malicious web sites will force small applications or browser plug-ins to be loaded onto your system... without your knowledge. Then, these applications can harvest your EMail address book, contact lists, web surfing history, and personal/financial information. All it takes is a typo to be on a bad web site.

Microsoft has entered the market of spyware & malicious application removal. If you are running Windows 2000, XP or 2003, you can have the Microsoft server check your system, and try to clean any infections it finds. They claim only to be looking for whatever is most prevalent on the Internet, at the time. With over half a million known viruses and counting, that could still be a lot! There are a number of sites that claim to be able to do this. Since Microsoft wrote the Windows operating system, I prefer they try and maintain it.
